The Girl in the Spider’s Web (2018) Theme Party

Really enjoyed the latest installment of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo / Millennium series.

BDSM, LGBTQ, polyamorous, hardcore themes tailored for the mainstream audience.

Less twisted than the first release involving violent rape scenes (which apparently was based on an actual incident the author witnessed), setting the tone as a revenge series.

There is a definite growing genre of super strong, super smart, black patent leather clad action women heroes:

• Trinity (The Matrix)

• Black Widow (Marvel)

• Major Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell)

• The protagonist of William Gibson’s “Pattern Recognition”

• Anna / Nina from the videogame Tekken

The entire Dragon series has amazing opening intro sequences, very dark and intense, like an Anton Corbijn music video.

• Make a loop of all the movies’ intro sequences edited together and play as background visuals for an invite-only club night

• Guests are not allowed to wear any colors (MONOCHROME) or branded items (NO LOGOS)

• Have it sponsored by Rick Owens, or hosted by Rick Owens’ wife

• Play industrial, post-punk, new wave: Skinny Puppy, Front 242, Depeche Mode, etc.

• “Blade” theme version: vampire-costume entry

• “Matrix” theme version: online RSVP by “hacking” website

• Sponsorship by Rick Owens

Female hacker gone vigilante action hero is a cyberpunk dream!

• Why is this not a comic book, better yet a manga or anime?

I think this series has infinite potential to keep generating stories endlessly, like any good franchise. The storytelling possibilities of having a strong, smart female lead with ambiguous sexual preferences are going to appeal to many generations to come.

"Hackers" (1995) Theme Party

STEAL THESE IDEAS for a party themed around the 1995 movie “Hackers” directed by Iain Softley, starring Angelina Jolie and Jonny Lee Miller, and soundtrack by electronic artists including The Prodigy, Leftfield, Moby, Orbital, and David Bowie.

• Hack-a-Thong: Nobody gets in unless they’re wearing a thong.

• Hack-a-Bong: Nobody gets in without taking a bonghit.

• Graf-a-thon: Graf artists use the character names to paint walls, e.g. Phantom Phreak, Zero Cool, Crash Override, Cereal Killer, and Lord Nikon.

• Rollerblades only, old school rollerblade dance party.

• CRASH AND BURN: Hackers compete to see who can draw “CRASH AND BURN” in ASCII the fastest.

• Soundtrack Live Remix: The soundtrack is live remixed by producers and DJs.

• Throw a party each month around the style of one song from the soundtrack, e.g. The Prodigy “Firestarter” or Massive Attack’s “Protection”.

• Just throw a rave.
